moose turd

This past Friday Emily and I left St. Joe around 5 in the afternoon and hit the road destined for Cape Girardeau.  We stopped in KC at me bank and a quick bite from BK.  It was a long trip, more for me probably though since Emily slept half the time, but well worth it.  We arrived on SEMO's campus at 11:02.  Then Lauren helped sneak us into her dorm and we stayed up late talking.

Saturday we slept until noon.  We all showered and got around before heading to the river campus to purchase tickets to see the Sweeney Todd play being performed that evening at 7:30.  Upon arrival at the ticket booth we were informed the cost of one ticket was $38 and not in fact 7 as we had been told before hand.  We decided against paying the outrageous ticket price and headed north along the river and the downtown shops.  We stopped in front of a really cool big white house with an awesome yellow leaved tree in the front year.  Those of you who haven't seen the pictures yet should check out my sister's photo albums she added from our weekend trip.

After taking a gazillion pictures, Lauren, Emily and I headed north toward the newer part of town to find some food.  We found Pizza Inn and we're pleasantly surprised.  We enjoyed a buffet of tasty pizza and left satisfied and full.  Then we went across the bridge that spans over I-55 to the only theater in Cape.  We three saw Eagle Eye...Lauren and I liked it anndddd Emily practiced her texting skills.  After the movie we headed back to Lauren's dorm (North) and spent the night visiting and web surfing until falling asleep after midnight again.

Sunday we slept until noon.  Again.  We once again showered and got around before heading to Subway for lunch.  I was so happy the girls were ok with the choice of restaurant because I absolutely love Subway.  We finished our scrumptious sandwiches and drove south again toward the bridge that connects Missouri and Illinois.  I got out and took a couple of pictures by myself because the girls would not participate.  Then we visited the site where the old bridge used to cross the Mississippi into Illinois.  Next, we stopped at Cup & Cork to pick up some warm drinks for our chilly afternoon. We spent the afternoon taking LOTS of pictures and hanging out again in the old part of town along the river.

After a few hours of downtown Cape we drove to Red Lobster for dinner.  Lauren, Emily and I enjoyed one entree...a create your own with three portions: Walt's shrimp, shrimp linguini, and white crab legs along with an appetizer of crab cakes.  It was a magnificent dinner that filled all of us perfectly.  We once more headed back to Lauren's dorm for the last time on this weekend trip.  Lauren made a trip up to her seventh floor room with Emily so Emily could grab her stuff while I waited in the car and then Lauren took a trip up with me while Emily waited in the car.  We hugged and said goodbye to Lauren so she could go study for a test she has/had this week, not sure.  Then Emily and I left Cape at 8p.m. for our journey to Lathrop.

We only stopped 4 times on the way home.  The trip home was much better than the trip there not because we were leaving Lauren or coming back to our home but because Emily was awake and talked to me the entire way home.  We jammed to some awesome music on the way home too.  We arrived in Lathrop at 3 Monday morning and slept there.  Got out of bed at 8:30 Monday morning and spent some time with mom and applying for Stepping Stones before waking Emily up and leaving Lathrop to come to the Joe at 9:45.

The weekend was totally awesome and Lauren and Emily had a blast together and Emily wanted to move down to Cape and attend SEMO and I'm glad I got to hang out with my sister........ahhhhhhh, it was just awesome!!!!

the roof is on fire

...more like Cody and I's feet, legs, back, hands, arms, and face are on fire.  The past two days have been harder than the two-a-days we used to enjoy back in high school.  Let's go back...

On Wednesday Cody and I woke up at 6:30 a.m.  We put work clothes and shoes on and drove to Adam Shelley's house.  Adam is a friend of Tad and Ty Binder.  We hopped into Adam's truck and drove to 26th Street and Mitchell to the house, turned into apartments, that Adam owns.  On this Wednesday, July 23, 2008, Cody and I would learn a new skill-how to roof a house.  This is by far the hardest skill I have ever learned and I would assume it's on Cody's top 3 list if not the hardest.

Besides a lunch break around one o'clock, we worked hard all day long taking 4 layers of shingles off, laying down ply wood, tar papering, and shingling one quarter of the roof.  Around four o'clock Cody and I were tired and starting to cramp; we finished work at 9 o'clock that night.  When we got back to the apartment Emily showed up while Cody was in the shower and then it was my turn.  We went to bed shortly after to wake up this morning at 9:30.

It took Cody a couple of tries to wake me up this morning.  We stopped by Hyvee on the way to the house this morning so I could grab some bananas and pickles to prevent the cramping.  I ate half the pickle jar and 3 bananas before we started work this morning.  Today we finished shingling the small section we didn't finish last night and then we tore off the shingles on a section on the lower part of the roof over the porch.  When we finished that we threw all of the torn off shingles, scrap metal, and old tar paper and nails into the bed of Adam's truck.  Then we took all of the scraps/trash to the landfill south of the Joe.  Adam and I played the guessing game.  Adam guessed 4000 lbs., Cody guessed 3400 lbs. and I guessed 3300 lbs.  The total weight was 2300 lbs.

We stopped at Arby's on the way back around 4 p.m. and had a couple sandwiches.  They were delish!  Then we hopped in the truck and back to ze house.  We loaded what was left of old shingles and trash into the truck.  We then proceeded to sweep off the roof, clean out the gutters, tar paper, and shingle the roof.  We finished again at nine tonight and before Cody and I got in his car to ride home, off came the dirty clothes.  We drove very legally on the way home as to not get pulled over while in our scibbies.  I called shower so when we got home I jumped in while Cody threw all of our dirty clothes from the past 2 days into the washing machine.  Then, to save time, I shaved while Cody took his shower.

After we had cleaned up Cody went to Jessica O'Dell's house to hang out and I came out to Emily and Abby's house to hang out.  I had a combination of potatoes, green beans, and hamburger and for dessert the famous "strawberry dessert".

I'm definitely in worse condition now than I ever was during two-a-days...

michigan day 13

Cody decided to write in the car on the way home and this is what he came up with:

I woke up from a deep slumber at 8:20 IN THE MORNING.  Lee woke up at 9:30 and mosied his way into the Luteyn household.  We didn't have much planned for this day besides relaxing with Rachel and her younger sister Brittany.  Unfortunately Rachel is a grown woman and had to work during most of the day so while we were chilling at her house with Bittany noon rolled around and we ordered a pizza from Rocky Rococ's(very good).  As Brittany brought the pizza into the house Rachel was home on her lunch break and was able to eat with us.  Unfortunately for the pizza we were hungry and devoured it like we hadn't eaten in days.

Shortly after we ate Rachel assumed position as mast diaper changer of the toddlers.  About 2 o'clock p.m. we decided we wanted to go shopping and spend a little bit more cash that we don't have because we're college students.  When we were getting ready to leave we decided to ask "little brother" (Brian) if he would like to come with Lee, Brittany and I to the mall.  He decided to come and we were set for our adventure to the great mall of Fond Du Lac.  Unfortunately for us we didn't spend much and just got some lotions for certain people in our lives that like those sort of things(mothers)..

After an interesting time at the mall we made our way back to the Luteyn household and chillaxed till dinner time, which was amazing!  After dinner we mingled and got to catch up with our good friend Rachel and her lil sis Brittany.  After about an hour of talking it was time to clean up the food and finish the rest of Ratatouille, which is about a rat that has the ability to cook and uses his ability to control a human that doesn't belong in the kitchen to make wonderful entrees.

When the movie was finished we decided to have Rachel take us out on the town and have a little fun.  That is exactly what we did.  We went to a sports complex and raced some go karts and played a game of putt putt.  Luckily I had the faster kart and was able to pass everyone like they were sitting still.  As for putt putt the scores went 1) Cody-56, 2)Lee-59, 3)Brittany-62, 4)Rachel-67.  But Rachel had two hole-in-ones and won a free game; Lee won a free game as well.  Then we decided to spend some more money for two more races of go kart racing.

We left the sports complex feeling complete satisfaction and the itch of a hundred mosquito bites.  Now it was time for the grand tour of Fond Du Lac and were we in store for some excitement.  We pulled off of main street into Gille's to get ice cream.  Then it was off to the light house to try and climb and get some pictures.  We went on with our tour and saw the largest high school in the state of Wisconsin.  We also saw their old high school and the aquatic center.  We drove around some more then decided to call it quits for the night.  We headed back to their house, Lee jumped in the shower to wash the stink off his body and then we started our journey at midnight to travel through the night back home to surprise our girlfriends and our families...

michigan day 10 & 11 & 12

day 10:
I woke up Monday at 3p.m. Cody and I literally had NO plans for the entire day....so we sat around the house on
our laptops all day long surfing the web, watching videos, movies, checking facebook, emails, etc. At 8 o'clock p.m. we
headed out to the fire pit and make a bonfire. At midnight or a little after the last log was halfway burnt or better so we
decided to call it a night and head inside. That is what Monday consisted of for us two guys.

day 11:
Yesterday we woke up at our usual time of noonish and did the same thing as the day before where 100% of our
attention was poured into our computers until about 4 o'clock when we started getting ready for a night at Dave And
Busters with the family. At five o'clock in the afternoon Cody, Annie and I left the house in Cody's car to pick up Joanne,
Steve's mom. Then we headed to whichever city D&B's was in to meet the family and head inside for a night-o-fun.

All 15 of us ordered food and then headed off to "charge" our D&B cards so we could play games. After a couple
of games the food was delivered to our tables so we all regathered around the tables and enjoyed a tasty meal.
Everyone enjoyed a wonderful night at Dave And Busters; what I was just informed by my blog partner is a family
tradition. At the end of the night Gwen took care of the ginormous bill and was thanked very gratefully by everyone.
We all said our goodbyes because that would be the last time Cody and I saw the rest of the family besides Steve and
Annie.

The trip home was about an hour of Cody and I with the windows down following his dad and blasting the music!

day 12:
We woke up today at noon o'clock on the dot. We had kind of planned on leaving at noon but were not worried at
all that we had not been able to do so. We took our sweet time showering and getting dressed, packing our bags,
taking last minute pictures, and saying our goodbyes. Cody and I hit the road at about 2p.m. Michigan time, one o'clock
home time. The drive to Fond du Lac, which is where Rachel Luteyn(girl that plays basketball on the MWSU team)
and her family live, was long but not as long as the drive we will endure to make it the rest of the way home. It took us
about 6 hours to complete the drive from Annie's house to Rachel's.

Right now I'm sitting in a camper on the north side of the Luteyn's house. The family set up there camper in the
back yard for Cody and I because they thought it would be more comfortable for us-whatever... Nothing against the
family though, we love them to death for even letting us stay on their property. They are also going to let us use their
shower and eat their food. It is very good to see a friend from school after 3 months of her absence in our lives.

p.s. we didn't do much in the past couple of days so I thought I would contract a few days worth of posts into one.

michigan day 9

...another day half slept away.  Yesterday was another wake up get dressed and walk out the door to ride in the car to somewhere.  Yesterday's somewhere was Gwen and Jim's.  They have a very nice lake house on Wolverine Lake about an hour south of where Steve and Annie's house is.

So we took off from Steve and Annie's around 2 p.m. and on the road trip the chosen flick to watch was Jumper.  It is about a kid who's mom leaves him and his dad when he's five years old.  He learns that he has the ability to jump/teleport when and where he wants and enjoys the freedoms this gives him until one day Roland stops by his place.  Roland is on the leader of the group of people that are trying to kill off the "jumpers".  It's the typical good guy fights bad guy while good guy tries to save the life of the beautiful girl.  We arrived at Jim's place at about 3 and were ready to start our day of fun out on the lake.

(I'm going to use names even though you won't know who I'm talking about-sorry)

Dave had already taken the wave runner out when we arrived so everyone excluding me hopped on the pontoon to take a trip around the lake.  I decided to hold down the fort since it was still pretty sunny out and I didn't feel like putting on sun screen.  Dave got back shortly after they pontoon took off so I strapped a life jacket on and took off.  They have a Yamaha 110 horse power 3 seater and it is very quick.  By the time I got back to the house the pontoon was still out on their trip so Dave took the wave runner back out again and I dried off a bit and got my laptop out to "connect" to the world.

When the pontoon got back Jim, who owns the house, fired up the grill and threw some hamburgers on it.  When they were done he yelled first come, first serve and I was on top of him like white on rice.  The burgers were awesome and so were all the sides; watermelon, noodle casserole, chips, etc.  Eddie, Jake, and Kayla showed up while we were eating and a couple of them took off on the wave runner.  After everyone had eating firsts, seconds, and some thirds, I hopped on the pontoon this time and we all went for another round on the lake.

When we got back Steve had started a fire and we all enjoyed smores or at least roasted marshmallows.  We socialized and enjoyed the fire past dark.  At about 10 p.m. we loaded up for the drive home and Cody and I finished Jumper on the way home.  We even had enough time to start the animated Ratatouille on the trip home.  I talked on the phone last night when we got home until late and fell asleep after getting off the phone before I could blog....

michigan day 8

I set a PR(personal record) today when I slept in till 3p.m.  My former record was 2p.m. set on July 4, 2003.  I rolled off the mattress and walked straight into the shower.  Cody's cousin guy had his high school graduation party at 5p.m.  For some reason in Michigan they don't have their graduation parties/open houses on the same day as graduation.

We left the house around 4:15 for the party and it was about a fifty minute drive.  I met Eddie who the party was for and then went straight to the food line.  Luckily there was no line and as soon as my plate was full I headed for the nearest open seat to dig in-Cody followed close behind.  After the meal Codeman and I played a little rungs and ladders.  Then we threw a pigskin around with the guys for a little while.  After a couple hours of hanging out and mingling Steve, Annie, Cody and I hopped back in the car for the ride home.  On the way home Cody and I finished the last half of Dan in Real Life, a pretty cool flick starring Steve Carell and Dane Cook, that we had started on the way to the party on my laptop in the back seat of the car.

We arrived home at 2200 hours, changed into football gear, and headed to the fair or more specifically the infamous horse arena.  When Cody and I arrived tonight our team was as usual but the team of flonkies was huge-in more than one way.  They had more people than usual and they had drafted larger guys to play for them.  When I had gotten my shirt and shoes off, because our team is always "skins", there were fights breaking out left and right so our team just walked off the field because no one wanted to join in on the stupidity and get hurt.  Myself and a couple other guys on our team didn't want to just give up though so we told the flonkies to grab their best 11 guys and we'd do the same and continue the game.  As you could've guessed, the smaller faster team beat the larger slower team 9-3 tonight and were victorious once again!

After team showers we hung around talking for a while because Cody and I won't get to attend the fair tomorrow due to a party for Cody at his aunt's where we will be riding the jet ski and water skiing.  We reminisced for a while before giving each other man hugs and saying goodbye for another year.  Cody and I made the same trip back up through the country side with the windows down and the music blaring for the last time on this visit to Michigan.  No fireworks this time, just a chilly drive back home.

We cleaned up when we got back and had a little bite to eat before Cody hit the sack.  I don't know what we're going to do Monday or Tuesday but as soon as it happens you'll know...
